As the years passed and our family grew up we thought about retirement and what that would be like. Like most of you we started putting money aside so we would have the funds to do all the fun things we planned. John planned on a retirement of golf, perhaps even Sr. professional golf. I wanted to retire and stay home and help raise our grandchildren so they would not need to go into daycare or have someone outside of the family take care of them when their parents worked.
It was the most important things that stayed the same. We are still together, we are still in love and we have our family around us. We also have our Lord with us for support and guidance when we needed it.
No matter what happens in our lives if we have God in it with us all will be good. I’m not saying it will be easy, but it can be good. This is what caused me to start a Caregiver Group at Health South Rehab Hospital. Caregiving is a hard job and being a patient is hard also. I believe that if we travel this path with God and others around us it can be an easier path. We need fellowship, laughter, and love to get us through this.
